General
Is the estimate free?
Yes. Send rough measurements and a photo of your opening and we send back a free estimate with no obligation. A specialist reviews every request.
Can you build doors and windows in custom sizes?
Yes. Everything we make is fabricated to the measurements of your opening. Our standard iron door sizes are 36" × 96" single and 72" × 96" double, but any size can be built to order.
Iron or aluminum: which is right for my project?
Iron is best for entries and classic divided-lite doors and windows. Aluminum is best for large modern openings, sliding and folding systems and big windows. Many of our projects combine both.
What are your lead times?
Lead times depend on size, material and quantity. Every quote includes a timeline, confirmed again once shop drawings are approved.
Who installs the doors and windows?
Our own Blackline crews, not subcontractors.
Which areas do you serve?
All of Texas — Dallas–Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Houston and the towns between — installed by our own crews.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Our work is covered by a manufacturer's warranty. Ask your specialist for the details that apply to your products.
Iron & Steel Entry Doors
How much is a custom iron entry door in Houston?
As a ballpark, our custom iron entry doors run around $145 per square foot of door: about $3,500 for a 36" × 96" single and about $7,000 for a 72" × 96" double, before glass upgrades, arched tops and site work. Send rough measurements and a photo for a free written estimate.
How much do double iron front doors cost?
A standard 72" × 96" pair is about 48 square feet, which puts it near $7,000 using our ballpark. Taller pairs, sidelights, transoms and special glass add to that, and your quote shows the exact price.
Iron vs steel front doors: what is the difference?
In today's market, the names overlap. Custom "iron" and "wrought iron" doors are fabricated from steel sections, which are stronger and more consistent than historic wrought iron. "Iron" usually describes the look (black frames, divided lites, arched tops) and "steel" the material. What matters is that the door is built to your opening, finished properly and sealed for the Texas climate.
Iron & Steel Pivot Doors
What is the difference between a pivot door and a regular door?
A regular door hangs on hinges at the edge of the frame. A pivot door turns on pivots set into the floor and the top of the frame, which lets the panel be much larger and gives it a smooth, balanced swing.
How big can an iron pivot door be?
Pivot doors can be built significantly wider and taller than hinged doors. The final size depends on the opening, the structure around it and the pivot hardware. We confirm the size on shop drawings before fabrication.
Are pivot doors good for Texas weather?
Yes, when they are sealed and installed correctly. Pivot doors seal differently from hinged doors, so we detail the weather sealing for each door and check it on site.
Iron & Steel French Doors
Can you replace my sliding patio door with iron French doors?
Yes. It is one of our most common projects. We measure the existing opening, remove the slider and install iron French doors sized to fit, with new sealing and trim.
Do iron French doors swing in or out?
Either. In-swing is common for patios; out-swing can save interior space and helps against wind-driven rain. We recommend the best option for each opening.
Can iron French doors be used inside the house?
Yes. Interior iron French doors are popular for studies, dining rooms and wine rooms because they separate the space while keeping it open to light.
Iron Windows
What is the difference between iron windows and aluminum windows?
Iron windows have the classic divided-lite look with narrow black muntins, ideal for farmhouse, European and traditional styles. Aluminum windows use slim, thermally broken frames for large modern openings. Many of our projects use both.
Do you install iron windows in new construction?
Yes. We work with builders from the rough-opening stage and coordinate delivery and installation with the build schedule.
Can iron windows open?
Yes. We build fixed windows and operable styles such as casements, matched so the grid and frame look the same across the elevation.
Aluminum Sliding Doors
How wide can an aluminum sliding door system be?
Multi-slide systems can cover very wide openings by adding panels. The practical width depends on the wall, the structure and the stacking layout. We confirm it on shop drawings.
Sliding or folding doors: which is better?
Sliding doors keep large panels of glass and stack behind each other; folding doors fold into a compact stack to one side and open more of the wall. Sliders have fewer frame lines; bifolds open wider. We help you choose per opening.
Are aluminum sliding doors energy efficient?
With thermally broken frames and Low-E insulated glass, aluminum sliders perform well in the Texas climate while keeping slim sightlines.
Aluminum Folding Doors
What is the difference between bifold and sliding doors?
Bifold panels fold against each other and stack at the end, opening almost the full width. Sliding panels glide and stack behind each other, keeping larger glass panels but leaving part of the opening covered. We help you choose per opening.
Are aluminum folding doors secure?
Yes. Folding systems use multi-point locking on the panels and are built with the same aluminum frames as our sliding systems.
Do folding doors let water in?
Properly specified thresholds, sealing and installation keep water out. Out-fold systems and the right threshold are often recommended for exposed openings.
Aluminum Windows
Are aluminum windows good for hot climates like Texas?
Yes, when they are thermally broken and use insulated Low-E glass. That combination keeps slim frames while reducing heat transfer.
Aluminum or iron windows: which should I choose?
Aluminum is best for large, modern openings with minimal frames. Iron is best for the classic divided-lite look. Many homes use iron at the front and aluminum at the back.
Can aluminum windows match my sliding doors?
Yes. We build both, so frames, finish and sightlines match across the elevation.
Iron Railings
Can you match a railing to my iron doors?
Yes. Because we build iron doors and windows, we design railings with matching profiles and finish.
Do you build interior and exterior railings?
Yes. We build stair, landing, balcony, porch and step railings, with finishes specified for interior or exterior use.
Do you measure on site?
Yes. Railings are measured on site and drawn for your approval before fabrication.
