A wider, taller entrance than any hinged door allows.
What is a pivot door? A pivot door does not hang from hinges on the side of the frame. It turns on a pivot set into the floor and the head of the frame, a few inches in from the edge. That changes what is possible: the panel can be much wider and taller than a standard door, and it swings open with a slow, balanced motion that feels intentional every time.
Built in iron and steel, the strongest of the metal pivot doors, a pivot door becomes the architectural centerpiece of the facade. Slim black lines, large panes of glass and a single oversized panel suit modern builds, transitional homes and contemporary remodels where the entry needs to match the scale of the house.
Because a pivot door is heavy and precise, the fabrication and the installation matter as much as the design. Blackline builds the door to your opening, sets the pivot hardware to the weight of the panel, and our own crews install and adjust it on site so it swings true and seals properly.

Proportions, glass and pivot placement.
Every pivot door is designed around its opening. These are the choices we work through with you.
Oversized panels
Pivot doors can be built much wider and taller than hinged doors, for entries with high ceilings and wide openings.
Offset or center pivot
An offset pivot gives one wide walk-through; a center pivot splits the opening for a symmetrical, gallery-like look.
Glass layout
Full-view glass, divided lites or a grid pattern, with clear glass for light or textured glass for privacy.
Sidelights & fixed panels
Fixed iron-and-glass panels beside or above the pivot fill very wide openings and keep the lines continuous.
What goes into a pivot door that works for years.
Pivot hardware
Floor and top pivots rated for the weight of the panel, set so the door swings smoothly and stays aligned.
Glass
Clear, rain, frosted and Low-E options, selected for light, privacy and heat control on sun-facing entries.
Finish
Matte black is the most requested finish; other colors can be specified to match windows and trim.
Handles & locks
Long pulls and locking hardware sized for a large panel, so it feels solid in the hand.
Sealing
Weather sealing detailed for a pivot door, which seals differently from a hinged door.
Installation
Installed and adjusted by Blackline crews, in new construction and in remodels where the opening is enlarged.

Questions about iron & steel pivot doors.
What is the difference between a pivot door and a regular door?
A regular door hangs on hinges at the edge of the frame. A pivot door turns on pivots set into the floor and the top of the frame, which lets the panel be much larger and gives it a smooth, balanced swing.
How big can an iron pivot door be?
Pivot doors can be built significantly wider and taller than hinged doors. The final size depends on the opening, the structure around it and the pivot hardware. We confirm the size on shop drawings before fabrication.
Are pivot doors good for Texas weather?
Yes, when they are sealed and installed correctly. Pivot doors seal differently from hinged doors, so we detail the weather sealing for each door and check it on site.
Can a pivot door be added to an existing home?
Often, yes. In many remodels the opening is widened or re-framed to fit a pivot door. We look at the opening and the structure first and tell you what is involved before you commit.
How much does an iron pivot door cost?
Price depends on the size of the panel, the glass, the finish and the site conditions. Send rough measurements and a photo for a free estimate.
