The first thing people see. Built to last longer than the house.
An iron entry door, often called a wrought iron front door or a steel entry door, sets the tone for the whole home before anyone steps inside. The weight, the clean black lines and the glass give a front elevation a presence that wood and fiberglass doors struggle to match, whether the house is a modern build in the Heights, a Mediterranean remodel in Memorial or a new farmhouse outside Katy. We build custom iron doors in Houston, where our showroom is, and install them across Texas.
Every Blackline iron entry door is fabricated to the measurements of your opening. We do not sell stock sizes off a rack and trim the wall to fit. You tell us the rough size and the look you want; we come back with shop drawings, glass and finish options, and a price and timeline you can plan around.
Because our own crews install what we build, the same team that measured the opening is the one that sets the frame, levels the door and seals it against Texas heat and rain. One company answers for the door from the first drawing to the final walkthrough.

Double iron and steel front doors in Houston.
Double iron front doors (also searched as iron double doors or steel double doors) are the door we build most in Houston. Two leaves fill a wide entry with glass and iron, light up the foyer and give the house a strong first impression from the street. They suit almost every Houston style: brick traditionals in River Oaks and Tanglewood, modern rebuilds in Bellaire and West University, and the farmhouse and transitional homes of Katy, Cypress and The Woodlands.
Our standard double is 72" × 96". For two-story foyers we build taller pairs, 8 to 10 feet and more, and add sidelights or a transom when the opening is wider than the doors. Each pair is built to the measured opening with an active and a passive leaf, flush bolts on the fixed side and hardware sized to the weight of the doors.
For Houston, glass and sealing matter as much as the design. We recommend Low-E glass for sun-facing entries and detail the weatherstripping and threshold for the humidity and heavy rain. Single, double, arched and with glass.
Start from one of these layouts and we adjust the size, proportions and panel design to your opening.
Single iron doors
One leaf for standard and tall openings, the simplest exterior iron door. Our standard single size is 36" × 96", and any height or width can be built to order, with or without sidelights.
Double iron front doors
Two leaves for wide entries and a stronger statement, our most requested wrought iron double front doors. The standard double is 72" × 96", with custom sizes for grand openings.
Sidelights & transoms
Fixed glass panels beside or above the door bring more light into the foyer and fill wider openings without oversizing the door.
Steel entry doors with glass
Full-view glass, divided lites or grid patterns in clear, rain or Low-E glass. Most of the steel front doors we build are glass doors, so light reaches the foyer while the frame stays slim.
Arched iron doors
Full arch or eyebrow tops for traditional and Mediterranean elevations, in single or double configurations, built to match the arch of your opening. Square tops suit modern homes.
Glass, finish and hardware, chosen with you.
Glass
Clear glass for a modern look, rain or textured glass for privacy, and Low-E options that help control heat gain on sun-facing entries.
Panel design
Full-view glass, divided lites or grid patterns in straight, square or custom layouts, including the designs in our 2026 Door Collection.
Finish
Matte black is our most requested finish. Other colors and textures can be specified to match windows, railings or exterior trim.
Hardware
Handle sets, pulls and locks are selected to the door and sized to its weight, so the door feels solid and closes cleanly every time.
Weather sealing
Doors are sealed and set to handle Texas heat, humidity and wind-driven rain, and checked on site during installation.
Installation
Installed by Blackline crews, not subcontractors, in new construction and in replacement projects where the old door comes out.

Questions about iron & steel entry doors.
How much is a custom iron entry door in Houston?
As a ballpark, our custom iron entry doors run around $145 per square foot of door: about $3,500 for a 36" × 96" single and about $7,000 for a 72" × 96" double, before glass upgrades, arched tops and site work. Send rough measurements and a photo for a free written estimate.
How much do double iron front doors cost?
A standard 72" × 96" pair is about 48 square feet, which puts it near $7,000 using our ballpark. Taller pairs, sidelights, transoms and special glass add to that, and your quote shows the exact price.
Iron vs steel front doors: what is the difference?
In today's market, the names overlap. Custom "iron" and "wrought iron" doors are fabricated from steel sections, which are stronger and more consistent than historic wrought iron. "Iron" usually describes the look (black frames, divided lites, arched tops) and "steel" the material. What matters is that the door is built to your opening, finished properly and sealed for the Texas climate.
Do you offer thermal break iron doors?
Yes. Thermally broken iron and steel doors are available on request. Ask for it when you request a quote and we price it alongside the standard frame, together with Low-E insulated glass options.
Can you replace my existing wood or fiberglass front door with iron?
Yes. Replacement is one of our most common projects. We measure the existing opening, remove the old door and frame, and install the new iron door with sealing and trim so it looks built-in, not added on.
What sizes do iron entry doors come in?
Our standard sizes are 36" × 96" for a single door and 72" × 96" for a double door, but every door is fabricated to order, so we build to your opening, including tall, wide and arched entries.
Do iron doors get hot in the Texas sun?
Iron doors absorb heat like any dark exterior surface. Low-E glass, a proper seal and the right orientation help keep heat out of the foyer. We walk you through glass options for sun-facing entries when we quote.
How long does it take to get an iron entry door?
Lead time depends on size, design and our production schedule. Every quote includes a timeline, and we confirm it once shop drawings are approved.
Do you work with builders and architects?
Yes. Many of our doors go into new custom homes. We work from plans and elevations, provide shop drawings for approval and coordinate delivery and installation with the build schedule.
