Why iron French doors

Light, views and a clean line between inside and out.

French doors are pairs of glass doors that open from the center, usually onto a patio, a pool deck or a courtyard. Built as black iron and steel French doors rather than wood or fiberglass, they keep the classic divided-lite look while using much slimmer frames than wood, so more of the opening is glass and more light reaches the room.

They are one of the most requested upgrades in Texas remodels: replacing an old slider or a pair of wood doors that no longer seal with iron French doors that look right on a brick or stucco home and close tightly against humidity and summer storms.

Inside the house, iron French doors work as a divider between a study, a dining room or a wine room and the rest of the home. They separate the space while keeping it bright and open to view.

Iron and steel French and patio doors in Houston.

In Houston, the back of the house gets as much use as the front: covered patios, outdoor kitchens and pools used most of the year. Iron French and patio doors connect that space to the living room and the kitchen, with slim frames that put more glass in the opening and more light in the house.

Most of our Houston patio projects are replacements. An old aluminum slider or a pair of wood French doors that has swollen and stopped sealing comes out, and a pair or a multi-panel set of iron doors goes in, built to the same opening. We detail the threshold and weatherstripping for Houston rain and humidity, choose in-swing or out-swing for each opening and match the divided lites to the windows.

Very wide openings can also use slim aluminum sliding doors or folding doors, built and installed by the same team. Questions about iron & steel french doors.

Can you replace my sliding patio door with iron French doors?

Yes. It is one of our most common projects. We measure the existing opening, remove the slider and install iron French doors sized to fit, with new sealing and trim.

Do iron French doors swing in or out?

Either. In-swing is common for patios; out-swing can save interior space and helps against wind-driven rain. We recommend the best option for each opening.

Can iron French doors be used inside the house?

Yes. Interior iron French doors are popular for studies, dining rooms and wine rooms because they separate the space while keeping it open to light.

What glass options do you offer?

Clear, rain, frosted and Low-E glass. Many clients choose clear glass toward the yard and textured glass where privacy matters.

What sizes do iron French doors come in?

Common pairs are 60" or 72" wide and 80" to 96" tall, but every door is built to your opening, including taller pairs, arched tops and multi-panel systems.

Do you install iron patio doors in Houston?

Yes. Patio and French door replacements are among our most common Houston projects, across Memorial, Katy, The Woodlands, Sugar Land and the rest of Greater Houston.

How much do iron French doors cost?

Price depends on the size, number of panels, glass and installation. Send rough sizes and a photo for a free estimate with pricing and lead time.
